BIOGRAPHY

Hello! My name is Emily Dupnick, and I would like to take some time to tell you a little bit more about myself.

I was born in Texas, but I grew up outside of Indianapolis, Indiana in a small town called Greenfield. Growing up, I spent a lot of time playing outside with my younger sister and reading novels. In high school, I joined the Cross Country and Track teams, which kept me very busy. After graduating high school in 2013, I enrolled in courses at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). I completed student teaching in an Indianapolis Public School  and worked with a variety of challenging students. In 2017, I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and a certification in English as a Second Language (ESL). I also received my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification through International TEFL Academy in July 2016.

I love to volunteer and donate my time to others. In the past, I have volunteered as a 3rd grade Religious Education Instructor at my church, Saint Michael's Catholic Church. I planned weekly lessons to help my students to grow in their faith. I currently volunteer as an ESL tutor for adults through Asian Help Services. My students are well educated individuals who are in Indianapolis for work, but they need to improve their conversational skills. I work with them once a week to learn slang terms and become more comfortable speaking in English.

When I am not volunteering or going to school, I enjoy working as a substitute teacher and reading tutor. I am licensed as a k-12 substitute teacher and love being able to work in the school system that I grew up in, which is Greenfield Central. Also, once a week, I meet with a 3rd grade boy at the local library to help him improve his reading skills and complete his homework. It has been a lot of work, but I am so happy to see how much he has improved over the past few months.

In the past, I worked for the YMCA as a Site Director to provide before/after school care to elementary-aged children. I planned daily lessons (cooking, science, reading, crafts, etc.) and helped students complete their homework. I also helped with preschool and elementary school summer camps when school was out of session. I really loved working for the YMCA, but I was unable to continue when my college courses became more intense.
